Ummm….

Not feeling much like posting today. I have wine and chocolate chip cookies and I have spent 3 hours playing pogo and worked on my thesis proposal. As well as did the grocery shopping, hence wine and cookies. 😄

Anyway have a cute picture for the blog today:

Horse! This is the horse I rode on the trail ride my friend and i did on my birthday. Remind me and I’ll tell you about it later.

Gotta go, the dog is barking to be let in.

Ramble #1

I really don’t know what to talk about today. I guess that’s one of the challenges about blogging everyday for a month for something like Blaugust. I am really enjoying Blaugust even though it’s challenging to even remember to get up a post.

I’m not engaging with the community as much as i wish I would, wish I could?? I dunno, thank you to those Blaugust participants who have checked out my blog and liked, I promise to get around to looking at other people’s blogs. I’m just one of those people who needs to get everything set up in a certain way before I dive in. Which means setting up a Feddly account and spending a block of time working over this blog again.

So what did I do today? I worked on some stuff for my thesis, which is already starting even though the semester hasn’t begun yet. I took my dog for a walk and the summer has waned enough that it doesn’t feel terrible outside at 5:30 in the evening. It’s a little bizarre to be that cool this early in August, but I’m not actually complaining.

Oh! I did restart a ceramics class yesterday. It only runs for 8 classes, but when i have something actually done, I’ll post it here. I forgot how much i loved working with clay. Though it takes a good bit of concentration.

That’s all I have for today, but Pogo Community day is tomorrow, so I might be posting about that.

Seen ya!

Incredibles 2 and MoviePass

So when I started this blog I said it would likely be random and cover a lot of topics. Case in point, I went to see a move today and came up with a topic for my blog. 😂

It’s getting to the end of summer vacation for me, I go back to work next week. I decided i wanted to go see a movie or two before that happens. Luckily i have MoviePass, right? Continue reading

Fandom

Sometimes, I love being a member of fandom, it brings me a lot of joy. Case in point, I just finished watching the four part DC episode Crisis on Earth-X. It was AMAZING! 😊

I won’t give anything away, but if you’re a fan of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, or Legends you need to watch this episode. I enjoy being engaged in fandom because it’s something that brings me joy and makes me happy. The DC Crossover puts many of my favorite characters together in a story that highlights the greatness that is the DC TV universe. We’re not going to discuss the DC movie universe and the trash fire that most of those movies are right now. There are a few exceptions, I loved Wonder Woman and Justice League had its strong points, but the others…

Anyway, I digress, I love being a fan. Especially when it gives me these types of moments:

Oliver’s face is so confused it’s precious!

Many people think being a geek or a nerd is a bad thing, but being a geek or a nerd means being a fan about… something, whether or not that’s Comics or gaming or trivia or birds or gardening, whatever. And if being a fan means i can be excited and gush about a TV shown with my friends when it makes me happy well… i am always going to be a fan.

My mother used to say that she thought i would grow out of gaming. Not in so many words, but I think she thought my interest would eventually turn to something more “adult”. It definitely hasn’t, as I’m more into fandom and gaming than ever before.

There really hasn’t been much point to this post, but i guess what I’m trying to say is… I think it’s good to be a fan, to be a geek or a nerd, and i don’t want to be any other way. And I hope to make more fandom friends along the way.

Traveling

Now I know this seems like a rather broad topic, and it is, but I’ve done a lot of traveling the last couple of months. When trying to think of a topic for today that wasn’t one of then three or four other posts I have in mind (each of which requires me to spend a few hours at my computer), I realized travel was a topic that fit nicely with yesterday’s Recuperating post.

Traveling is hard. Continue reading

Recuperating

I have spent today on my couch recuperating from the awesomeness of GenCon. GenCon’s tag line is “The Best four days in Gaming” and I believe that to be extremely accurate. That also means there’s a heck of a lot going on at a multi day convention that spans multiple buildings.

GenCon is fun, and something that you should experience if at all possible, but it is also extremely draining. I loved the different games i got to play and the people i got to meet. Conventions are one of the best places to meet new people, especially if you’re a little introverted like I am. The brilliance about Conventions, any geeky convention of any kind, is that the people there are all like you, and you almost always will have a point of interest to talk about. Even if it’s just the excessive lines and the hordes of people at GenCon.

I know i said that i would go back and fix the post i did yesterday when i wrote this one today, but i don’t think I will. It stands as proof of how draining a convention can be and how we need to take care of ourselves sometimes.

I really want to post in this blog everyday in August, and keep posting consistently after Blaugust is over, but sometimes rest and caring for yourself comes first. Though I blogged yesterday it was all I could do to get those few paragraphs together, and even today, though I slept for 11 hours, I’m still tired mentally and physically. It’s difficult pulling the cognitive strength together to write this post, but I’m doing it because I thought writing about self-care was important.

Because taking a day to do nothing is self-care, even after an event that you had fun at. If you do something that drains you, mentally or physically, take the time you need to recover from it, no matter what it was.

We all need time for ourselves. Me? I’m going to go back to catching up on the Flash.

Enjoy your evenings!
